Simply put, trauma is an emotional and often physical response to an overwhelming , frightening or terrible event. Trauma is extremely prevalent, with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. That's 223.4 million people.
Trauma can be acute, chronic, complex or secondary/vicarious, and trauma response encompasses much more than what we typically think of as “trauma.”

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy method that is scientifically proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing experiences. It uses a back-and-forth eye movement to get at a deeper “processing” of the residual effects of trauma that are trapped in the nervous system. For more info, see handout “EMDR Explained on my resources page.

Welcome to therapy! If you want to learn more about working with me, click the Book a Session button on the top right of this page to get in contact.
We’ll set up a time to connect and see if we are a good fit.
Once we start working together, we spend a few sessions getting to know each other and developing your goals together. I go over the expectations for therapy in our first session, and you are always welcome to ask questions as we go along.
You get to decide once you are ready to end therapy.

If you choose to use your insurance to pay for sessions, be aware that they require me to provide you with a mental health diagnosis. I develop this diagnosis using the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-5), as well as information gathered from you using assessments and interviews during our sessions.
If you choose to privately pay, we have more flexibility with diagnoses.

I am an out of network (OON) provider for some insurance companies. This means that I provide you with a superbill, or detailed document that includes information about your diagnosis and frequency of our sessions, for you to mail to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please note that any diagnosis made will become part of your permanent insurance records.
